Manual Handling Policy

All guidance taken from the STA code of practice to help keep swimmers safe at all times.

Teachers may support the non-swimmers/beginner swimmer by holding under the head, holding hands or using floatation devices. Swimmers are never forced or pulled.

All teachers have DBS and safeguarding qualifications. Teachers are observed by parents, poolside assistants and other teachers and will only use best practice when manually supporting a swimmer.

If any parents/guardians DO NOT wish for their child to be taught with manual support/assistance by the teacher please email us and make us aware, we will add a note to the register and inform the teacher.

We would advise manual support to help progress the swimmer through the beginner stages and also improvers if learning a new skill such as diving, but we will only manually support with parents/guardians full support.
